How To Clean Your Wax Pot At Home

A step-by-step guide to cleaning your waxing pot

Besides for keeping up appearances, an unclean waxing pot can encourage bacteria growth, which could result in your customers picking up an infection – something no salon owner wants to experience.

Wax solvents are normally the go-to in this kind of situation, and while they work well on hard surfaces such as floors and bench tops, when it comes to cleansing pots or anything vinyl, oil is a must.

Put a few drops of fragrance and colour-free on some paper towel and simply wipe out your wax pot. The oil will quickly dissolve the wax, and while it might leave a slight residue, this can easily be wiped away with a clean cloth.

You can also use an acetone-free nail polish remover or surgical spirits, but over a period of time, cleaning solvents cause plastic to crack and loose their shine. Oil, on the other hand, keeps them looking near-new for considerably longer.

Remember – always wear protective gloves when cleaning out a wax pot just in case.

How to clean your wax pot – Guide

Just to make sure you've got everything covered, here's a step-by-step guide to effectively, and safely, cleaning a wax pot:

1. Heat up your wax pot to a slightly higher temperature than normal.

2. Keep the heat going until the melted wax has taken on a thin consistency.

3. Carefully, without burning yourself, remove the inner bucket and pour the melted wax into a container for storage.

4. Make sure you have sterilised the container beforehand. If the wax is old then it must be disposed of in the correct manner. Do not pour down the drain as it will damage your plumbing pipes and block the drain as the wax will solidify.

5. Allow the inner container bucket to cool down.

6. Pour some of your preferred cleaner, such as oil, into the container and allow some of the wax to be dissolved away.

7. Use a scraper or spatula to remove stubborn bits of wax.

8. Repeat this process as many times as it takes to get rid of all the old wax.

9. Once all the wax is dissolved away, use paper towel to wipe out the inside of the wax pot to get rid of any residue.

10. Pour in some sterilising solution.

11. Swirl it around the bucket container.

12. Leave the solution in bucket for the recommended time frame then rinse thoroughly.

13. Wipe out with paper towel again and then clean out any remaining residue with a cloth.
